The answer is simple…depends on your wallet size! Of course, there are other factors to consider as well.

It doesn’t have to be overwhelming. By taking the time to educate yourself, you will find the AC unit that will meet your needs AND fit your budget.

Here are some tips to help:

1. Check the SEER number…the higher the number, the more economical it is to run the system.

2. Do you really need or want the extra bells and whistles like a remote control.

3. What kind of refrigerant is used? FREON ( R-22 ) is being phased out because of its ozone depleting qualities. PURON (R-410a ) is EPA approved and environmentally friendly. You don’t want to purchase a unit that will become obsolete when FREON is no longer being manufactured.

4. Check the warranties for parts and labour. Most come with a 10 or 5 year warranty. A good warranty will save you money in the long run.

5. Get the Energy Star rating. If you have an Energy Star home, you must have a minimum SEER 14 to keep that designation.

6. Pick a licensed, reputable HVAC dealer/installer to do the work.

7. Last but not least, sit back and enjoy the cool!!
